  • Total Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients

πŸ“‹ Ingredients List:
πŸ«’ 2 tablespoons olive oil
πŸ§… 1 cup diced onion
πŸ«‘ 1 cup diced green bell pepper
πŸ§„ 1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic
πŸ„ 1 pound ground beef, 80/20
🌿 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
🌢️ 2 teaspoons chili powder
πŸ§‚ 2 teaspoons kosher salt
⚫ 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
🍚 1/2 cup uncooked long grain white rice
πŸ… 2 tablespoons tomato paste
πŸ₯« 1 14.5-ounce can diced tomatoes with juice
πŸ’§ 1 cup water
πŸ₯„ 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
πŸ§€ 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

1️⃣ In a skillet with a tight-fitting cover, heat olive oil over medium-high. Add onion, peppers, garlic, ground beef, dry mustard, chili powder, salt, and pepper. SautΓ© until ground beef is no longer pink, breaking up beef as you cook. (Drain any excess grease.) 🍳
2️⃣ Add rice and cook for two minutes, letting rice absorb liquid. 🍚
3️⃣ Add tomato paste and cook for one minute. πŸ…
4️⃣ Add canned tomatoes with juice, water, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes covered. πŸ”₯
5️⃣ After 20 minutes, remove lid and fluff the mixture, then serve. If the mixture is too wet, cook for another few minutes with the lid off. πŸ₯˜
6️⃣ If using cheese, sprinkle on top for the last few minutes of cooking time with the lid on. πŸ§€

Notes

For a spicier twist, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or diced jalapeños. 🌢️
Serve with a side of cornbread or a fresh green salad for a complete meal. πŸ₯—
