Cinnamon Hard Candy

Homemade cinnamon hard candy is a fun and spicy sweet treat perfect for topping ice cream or enjoying by itself.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup water
  • 3-3/4 cups sugar
  • 1-1/4 cups light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon red liquid food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon oil
  • 1/3 cup confectioners' sugar

Method
 

  1. Line a 15x10x1-inch pan with foil, then butter the foil and set the pan aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, combine water, sugar, corn syrup, and food coloring. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Cover and cook for additional 3 minutes, or until any sugar crystals have dissolved.
  4. Uncover and cook on medium-high heat without stirring until a candy thermometer reads 300°F, about 25 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in cinnamon oil.
  6. Immediately pour the hot liquid into the prepared pan. Let it cool completely, about 45 minutes.
  7. Break the candy into pieces using a metal mallet. Sprinkle both sides with confectioners' sugar.
