Strawberry Danish Recipe

A buttery and flaky Danish pastry filled with sweet cream cheese and fresh strawberries, finished with a glaze or jam.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups sliced strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 8 oz cream cheese room temperature
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 sheets puff pastry thawed
  • 1 large egg lightly beaten with 1 teaspoon water
  • 2 - 3 tablespoons sugar for topping, optional
  • ¼ cup strawberry jam optional for topping
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 - 3 tablespoons milk

Method
 

  1. Thaw puff pastry for 30-45 minutes at room temperature and preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix sliced strawberries, sugar, and cornstarch in a bowl and let them sit for 15 minutes.
  3. In another bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Cut puff pastry into rectangles, score a border, fill with cream cheese mixture, and add strawberries.
  5. Brush edges with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar. Chill for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Cool and top with jam or glaze.

Notes

These danishes can be topped with warm strawberry jam or a vanilla glaze.
